XCD 2,5/55V
WIDE-APERTURE LENS FOR DOCUMENTARY AND PORTRAIT SHOOTING

Equivalent to a full-frame 43mm focal length, the XCD 2,5/55V standard lens produces a viewpoint similar to the human eye. This perspective, combined with the soft bokeh effect from the large f/2.5 aperture, makes this lens an outstanding option for full or half-length portraits and ideal for shooting documentary, still life, or daily photography. When using the XCD 2,5/55V lens, the narrow aperture and leaf shutter blades can create Hasselblad's hallmark eight-point starburst effect on bright light sources. With its compact optical design, small and lightweight focusing module, and optimised leaf shutter, XCD 2,5/55V weighs only 372g but delivers top-class optical performance.

Precision Optics, Outstanding Imagery

Capturing the most subtle nuances of light and shadow begins with the lens. Only with excellent resolution and colour reproduction can it provide a solid foundation for imaging. A medium format sensor has a large area and a high pixel density, posing stringent requirements for the precision of the lens. Starting with the selection of high-quality glass, Hasselblad engineers carefully grind each lens to perfect its optical quality and meet the resolution requirements of 100 million pixels.

The XCD 2,5/55V lens features nine elements in eight groups, including two aspherical elements, one ED element, and one specially made large-diameteraspherical element. With a thoughtfully crafted arrangement, the lens has not only a compact size but also improves light transmittance and suppresses chromatic dispersion. Combining the XCD 2,5/55V with a Hasselblad mirrorless medium format camera yields stunning results.

New Focusing Module: Fast, Light, Accurate

The upgraded focusing module adopts a linear stepping motor and a lighter, smaller focusing lens group. These changes effectively eliminate any backlash from the lens group moving and, coupled with the PDAF technology of the X2D 100C, mean the focusing lens group can quickly reach the focusing position and achieve a precise stop. Resulting in fast, flexible, and accurate focusing.

Smaller Leaf Shutter, Powerful and Professional Assistance

The leaf shutter is a powerful component in Hasselblad's medium format system. The XCD 2,5/55V lens is equipped with an upgraded leaf shutter that, while smaller, maintains the same precision performance as its predecessors and is fast and quiet to avoid disturbance when shooting. In addition, this ultra-small shutter captures at up to 1/2000s and delivers flash synchronisation at all speeds.

FAQ
What is different about the new XCD 2,5/38V, XCD 2,5/55V, and XCD 2,5/90V from previous XCD lenses?

The new XCD lenses include XCD 2,5/55V, XCD 2,5/38V, and XCD 2,5/90V. The lenses feature more compact and lightweight builds while maintaining Hasselblad’s top-class optical performance. The fully upgraded focusing module enables faster and more accurate autofocus. The optimised leaf shutter is more compact, providing flash synchronisation at all speeds. Each metal lens features both a focus ring and lens control ring delicately engraved with a Hasselblad "H" logo print. The lenses support full-time MF. A simple push and pull of the focus ring changes from AF to MF mode, where intuitive scale marks keep focus distance and DOF clear at a glance. The control ring can be customised for quick access to preferred functions, making shooting more convenient and efficient.

Do XCD 2,5/38V, XCD 2,5/55V, and XCD 2,5/90V lenses support full MF?

Yes. Full-time manual focus is always available. Adjust the focus ring at any time regardless of whether you are using AF or MF mode.

How many functions can I customise for the control ring on the XCD 2,5/38V, XCD 2,5/55V, and XCD 2,5/90V lenses?

You can set the control ring to one of the five functions - N/A, ISO, aperture, shutter, and exposure compensation. For more details, please refer to the X2D 100C User Manual.

When using with X1D-50c, X1D II 50C, or 907X 50C, will the new XCD 2,5/38V, XCD 2,5/55V, and XCD 2,5/90V lenses focus faster than the old XCD lenses?

Due to hardware limitations, the X1D, X1D II, and 907X will not focus faster when used with the new XCD lenses.

What is a leaf shutter? How does it work?

The leaf shutter is built into the lens structure. Its most significant advantage is to achieve flash synchronisation at all speeds (e.g., flash sync speed of up to 1/2000s). This helps capture fast-moving subjects when a flash is used and is also helpful for wide-aperture portraits in strong lighting conditions or outdoors.

For cameras with a focal-plane shutter, when using flash, the shutter speed is limited to 1/125s or 1/250s, posing restrictions for creativity. Due to the special design of the leaf shutter, it generates significantly reduced vibration when triggered, making it more efficient to obtain satisfactory shots.

How do I correct lens distortions?

Distortions can be corrected in Phocus or other image processing software for more accurate optical effects. The camera itself does not support lens correction.
